Cancer cancels Beastie Boys tour, delays album release

The Beastie Boys have canceled all scheduled tour dates and pushed back the release of their latest album as member Adam Yauch is being treated for a cancerous tumor in his salivary gland. Yikes! Yauch will undergo surgery next week, followed by radiation treatment. He said the cancer is localized to one area, which Yauch said was “convenient.” I think… Continue reading Cancer cancels Beastie Boys tour, delays album release

Monotonix @ Siren

Remember when boy bands were just, like, the biggest thing ever ohmygod? And the Backstreet Boys and *NSync would get up on stage, all facing away from the audience before the music began? And they’d dance around with flawless choreography while (allegedly) singing their songs? Well, Monotonix is kind of the same thing, if you… Continue reading Monotonix @ Siren

Built to Spill @ Siren

The very first thing that caught me about Built to Spill is how ridiculously beat up the band’s guitars are. But that’s expected; hell, the band’s been going for no less than 17 years now, and singer/guitarist Doug Martsch is sporting more than a bit of gray in his beard. Luckily, the quality of the… Continue reading Built to Spill @ Siren

Prepare yourself for KR’s thoughts on the Siren Music Festival

I’m going to start all this by saying Coney Island is ridiculously cool. I respect your opinion, so disagree if you’d like, but just know you’re wrong. The place is one big survivor of a locale, caught years in the past and loving every second of it. On its rickety boardwalk, there are family owned… Continue reading Prepare yourself for KR’s thoughts on the Siren Music Festival

NYC Show Alert: The Grates playing Pianos tomorrow

Australia’s The Grates will be playing Pianos Residency in Manhattan (Lower East Side) TOMORROW (7/14). You may not expect them to be my cup of tea, but then consider that the trio (two girls, one guy) meshes so many different sounds together – I feel like I’m listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s and Cold… Continue reading NYC Show Alert: The Grates playing Pianos tomorrow

Frightened Rabbit to tour America with fellow Scots The Twilight Sad and We Were Promised Jetpacks

Coolest tour news ever?? Scotland’s Frightened Rabbit, quite possibly one of my favorite bands of the past year or so, are teaming up with fellow countrymen The Twilight Sad, as well as We Were Promised Jetpacks, for a huge North American tour. Expect a lot of wonderfully sad, epic shows, filled with the atmospheric noise… Continue reading Frightened Rabbit to tour America with fellow Scots The Twilight Sad and We Were Promised Jetpacks

Pixies announce stupid European Doolittle tour

To recognize the 20 years since the release of their landmark album, Doolittle, the Pixies have decided to go on tour (!!) in Europe (…). The tour is actually pretty cool, they’re playing all the songs from Doolittle and the album’s B-sides and junk. I know they’ve toured the states recently and that was pretty… Continue reading Pixies announce stupid European Doolittle tour
