I don’t usually do this. I’m not usually on top of the buzzworthy big names the second things happen because I just don’t care that much. But Stereogum can be quite useful for such things, and I stumbled upon the MP3 of Amy Millan covering Death Cab For Cutie’s brilliant “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” for her forthcoming album, Masters Of The Burial, and needed to provide it.
You probably know of my love for all things Amy Millan – Stars is one of my favorite bands, and she’s been an excellent solo artist as expected. So here she gives her nice folk twang to a song that has had massive appeal since its Death Cab release, precious enough for hipsters and making mainstreamers emotional. I can see that bro in his popped collar sitting down and singing this song to his girlfriend. (With the promise she never tell anyone it happened.)

I know what you mean, that’s actually a very good description – it’s just one of those sweet songs that’s able to reach me. The honest lyrics, the simplicity. Or maybe something else entirely, not really sure.
