Itās time for music fans to sit up and take notice: thereās something special going on in Minneapolis. A solid stream of excellent music is coming out of the twin cities these days, and the latest to add to the list is Prissy Clerks. The bandās debut album, Bruise or Be Bruised, is out on Forged Artifacts and is one of the highlights of 2012.
The influence of 90ās alternative/indie rock is apparent throughout the record, but Prissy Clerks update and modernize the sound. I feel like Iām listening to a hybrid of The Breeders and Dum Dum Girls with the polish of Best Coast. Take a minute and picture that, now imagine Tanya Donelly channeling Mary Lou Lord as the vocalist. Sounds pretty amazingā¦and so it is.
The opening punch of āBruise or Be Bruisedā followed by āDeath Wishā will be enough to hook you. Bruise or Be Bruised is song after song of tight, well-constructed-but-slightly-tarnished pop genius. You owe it to yourself and all your unsuspecting to friends to get over to Forged Artifacts and buy this. This is one of those records that you can turn everyone in the neighborhood onto and they will thank you for it for years to come. If youāre a vinyl person please note there are only 250 pressed right now, so donāt wait.
