So I’m gonna play a little game with you (I got the idea from a friend over at Silly Pipe Dreams, who now writes for the FX comedy “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”). This is what happens: I press play on iTunes, and then tell you which 5 songs show up and provide a little tidbit and the mp3 (most of the time). Judging is allowed. Here’s hoping I don’t embarrass myself. I promise I won’t cheat.
- Bodies of Water – “Our Friends Appear Like the Dawn” (from Ears Will Pop & Eyes Will Blink). Did not make my year-end list, but one of my favorite bands from ’08 who quickly gained ground on everyone’s radar with shimmery multi-layered pop.
- The Roots – “Don’t Say Nuthin” (from The Tipping Point) We haven’t posted much rap here at Knox Road, but that doesn’t mean we don’t like it. The Roots are one of my favorites.
- Systems Officer – “Forever This Cyanide” (from the Systems Officer EP) Zach from Pinback’s side project. Very much like Pinback. A couple real gems on this album, especially “Hael”.
- Jesca Hoop – “Intelligentactile 101” (from Kismet) Quirky, yet charming pop ditty. Gets real catchy with the chorus. A recommended artist. Also, Hoop was the nanny for Tom Waits’ children. Pretty Sweet.
- We Are Scientists – “Worth The Wait” (from With Love and Squalor) Not one of my favorites from this album, but not bad nonetheless. Just a bit too whiny for my taste. I do enjoy We Are Scientists in general though.
Whew. That wasn’t so bad. No Lindsay Lohan in sight…
